Asheville has it all, even a tantalizing temple of sinfulness bestowed upon us mortals by Ixcacao, the Mayan goddess of chocolate. It is the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, a treasure trove housing scrumptious delights of handmade, artisanal chocolates and handcrafted pastries. This place is a chocoholic’s dream!
It’s a wonderful meeting place for couples, friends, families and acquaintances to come and enjoy the very essence of chocolate. Replete with dining and seating areas this is a great place to score a luscious fix and relax during the day, after work, before a show, after dinner, or really anytime you fancy a sumptuously sweet creation.
It’s all here under one roof, cakes made of dense chocolate, devil’s food, white chocolate, vanilla, carrot, cheese…oh my! Choose from crème brulee, mousse, cookies, tarts, shortbread, brownies, toffees, caramels and chocolate bars. And if that doesn’t do it for you, top it all off with their own ganache-based drinking chocolate. Since I vacillate between veganism and being an outright omnivore, it is good to know that vegan chocolate is also available.
So if you’re looking for a place to enjoy dessert or just an excuse to indulge yourself, I recommend a stop at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. They are open 7 days a week, but be aware that you may encounter a line that has been known to form outside the building.
